Today, the spirit of the panther within me has once again called to my mind and soul, perhaps because of its strength, its courage, or your relationship with this world and the other. I don't know, but when I finished the painting, I said to myself: This is me.
Hoy nuevamente ha llamado a mi mente y a mi alma el espíritu de la pantera que llevo dentro, quizá por su fuerza, su valentía, o por tu relación con este mundo y el otro. No lo sé pero al terminar el cuadro me dije a mi misma: Soy yo.
Siempre me ha gustado las panteras, en un comienzo fueron los pumas, pero luego ese negro brilloso del pelaje de las panteras me fascinó. Es por eso que tengo una gata negra, la siento mi guardiana y siempre me acompaña, vaya donde vaya.
Hace tiempo no pintaba, han pasado muchas cosas, por las cuales no encontraba ni la inspiración ni el tiempo. Tengo siempre que considerar que un cuadro como este puede llevarme entre 8 y 10 horas de realización, porque me gusta darle la mayor cantidad de detalles posibles y mi enfoque siempre es el rostro, tiene que quedar como quiero.
En este caso, quería que los rasgos de pantera en el rostro de la mujer fueran mucho y que hubiera mucho negro en el cuadro. Dicen que el negro ahuyenta la mala energía. Por otro lado, quería que la luz estuviera contrastando el negro y cree la idea en mi cabeza. Una mirada felina al acecho para proteger lo que es propio.
I haven't painted in a while. A lot has happened, and I couldn't find the inspiration or the time. I always have to consider that a painting like this can take me between 8 and 10 hours to complete because I like to add as many details as possible, and my focus is always on the face. It has to turn out the way I want it to.
In this case, I wanted the panther-like features on the woman's face to be very prominent and for there to be a lot of black in the painting. They say that black wards off bad energy. On the other hand, I wanted the light to contrast with the black, and that's how the idea came to me. A feline gaze on the prowl to protect what is hers.
Como acostumbro hice varias líneas guías para realizar el dibujo, definiendo la zona de ojos, nariz y boca, también la finalización del mentón, el comienzo del cabello y el centro en general del rostro. Esto me ayuda a ubicarme en el espacio en blanco del lienzo. La técnica que usé es óleo sobre lienzo.
También, como siempre comencé por los ojos, tratando de mantener la simetría, luego la nariz y los labios, definiendo las cejas, el cabello y mínimamente el resto, como las flores y hojas del fondo. Normalmente esto último directamente lo pinto sobre el lienzo y voy cambiando la forma de acuerdo a la inspiración.
También hice algunos dibujos no simétricos sobre el rostro como dejando entrever ese espíritu de la pantera interna que va asomando al exterior. Me gusta hacer esto sobre todo en la parte que rodea a los ojos.
As usual, I drew several guide lines to help me with the drawing, defining the area of the eyes, nose and mouth, as well as the end of the chin, the beginning of the hairline and the centre of the face in general. This helps me to position myself on the blank canvas. The technique I used is oil on canvas.
Also, as always, I started with the eyes, trying to maintain symmetry, then the nose and lips, defining the eyebrows, hair and minimally the rest, such as the flowers and leaves in the background. Normally, I paint the latter directly onto the canvas and change the shape according to my inspiration.
I also made some asymmetrical drawings on the face, as if to reveal the spirit of the inner panther peeking out. I especially like to do this around the eyes.

Cuando ya estuvo listo el dibujo borré parte de las líneas y me dispuse a pintar. Había puesto tantos detalles al rostro que esta vez preferí pintar primero toda la piel, aplicando más sombras de lo normal. Los colores que usé son: blanco, carne o piel, siena claro, tierra tostada y negro.
Una vez que eso estuvo listo pinte el adorno de la frente con negro, blanco y azul talo. Luego siguieron los ojos y párpados y los decorados de las mejillas, pero dejé de último la colocación del color negro para las sombras. Aplicar mucho negro puede ser riesgoso ya que luego arreglar el exceso es muy complicado. Los ojos los hice amarillos con un poco de marrón, negro y blanco, y en la parte blanca del ojo coloqué azul, me gustó la idea.
Ya había pintado la nariz cuando pinté el rostro, toda la piel, por lo que continué con los labios. Allí use blanco, color piel o carne, carmín, tierra tostada y negro.
When the drawing was ready, I erased some of the lines and set about painting. I had added so many details to the face that this time I decided to paint all the skin first, applying more shadows than usual. The colours I used were: white, flesh or skin tone, light sienna, burnt umber and black.
Once that was done, I painted the forehead decoration with black, white, and blue talo. Then I did the eyes and eyelids and the decorations on the cheeks, but I left the black for the shadows until last. Applying too much black can be risky, as it is very difficult to fix any excess. I made the eyes yellow with a little brown, black and white, and I added blue to the white part of the eye, which I liked.
I had already painted the nose when I painted the face, all the skin, so I continued with the lips. There I used white, skin or flesh colour, carmine, burnt umber and black.

Luego del culminar con el rostro, me dediqué al fondo, las flores naranjas, las hojas con distintas tonalidades de verdes y azules más blanco y negro. El fondo está constituido sobre todo por el cabello negro de la mujer, negro como el pelaje de la pantera.
El cabello se entremezcla con las flores, las hojas y todas sus tonalidades, pero en el cabello en si mismo, que es parte fundamental del contraste con el rostro, usé negro, azul y blanco para los reflejos.
Cuando el cuadro estuvo terminado quedé muy satisfecha con el resultado, creo que uno de los que más me gusta de los que he pintado, sinceramente.

After finishing the face, I focused on the background, the orange flowers, the leaves with different shades of green and blue, plus black and white. The background consists mainly of the woman's black hair, black like the panther's fur.
The hair intermingles with the flowers, the leaves and all their shades, but in the hair itself, which is a fundamental part of the contrast with the face, I used black, blue and white for the highlights.
When the painting was finished, I was very satisfied with the result. I think it is one of my favourite paintings that I have ever done, honestly.
