I’m always astounded by how easy it can be to destroy something that took years and decades to build. One simple mistake, one simple act, and everything will be under threat of going under. And many times, it’s not even by us. It could be by people we love, whose actions will negatively impact everything that we’ve built. That’s just part of the fragility of life; no one truly knows what tomorrow holds, and circumstance can change on a dime, within the blink of an eye.
But then, it is what it is. Just as no one knows tomorrow, no one knows what lies in the heart of man. The choices we make and the choices of the people closest to us will always affect us in one way or another. They can be the one thing that could either make us or mar us. Issues like these are always illustrated in movies and novels.
Sometimes, you could see a criminal who has managed to build an empire, they have connections in high places of government, and they’re basically untouchable. Hell, no one even knows that they’re criminals due to the amount of time and effort they used to set everything up. It could all be going smoothly. But then, one issue would go wrong. Their daughter could drink and drive, and end up hitting someone. Their son could abuse drugs or even sexually assault a woman.
And then, the parents will be willing to do anything and everything to hide the atrocious acts, even if it means murder. And that is usually the beginning of the downfall of such criminal enterprises. You’ll see that something that was once solid and untouchable, but because of one irresponsible act, can be destroyed just like that.
In real life, the world today is rife with how sexual irresponsibility has destroyed the careers of so many men. Just because they couldn’t control themselves, they ended up becoming a victim of their own desires. Celebrities, billionaires, powerful people… and just like that, their acts caught up with them and totally destroyed what was a beautiful career.
And it’s not just with sex. It also goes with something as basic as saying the wrong thing. The entire world watched how theSnow White movie was basically torpedoed by the movie’s lead actress, and it never recovered. As a result, the studio lost so much money that it was almost a disgrace. And even worse, it had to cancel some future remakes of animated classics. And what are these? These are jobs for actors, crew members, and potential earnings from dividends. It’s all gone.
As in ehn… life is so fragile. It’s so unpredictable. You think you have it all figured out, but one tiny thing can turn everything on its head. It can be as basic as saying the wrong thing or choosing the wrong person. But that would only be the start of what will be total destruction. It can be done by you, or it can be done by someone close to you. But the impact would most likely be the same.
But then, what does all that mean? Does this mean that we shouldn’t strive for greatness because it can all be taken away from us? That would just be wrong. While the news is filled daily with people destroying their careers due to one mistake or irresponsible act, there are also people who have built dynasties for themselves and are still very much disciplined. Also, many have structures in place so that no matter what happens, the empire lives on even if they’re embroiled in some controversy.
At this point, one can only be hopeful. As I said, no one knows tomorrow. And as we build, we can only hope that something doesn’t come from nowhere to tear it all down. That’s enough to send anyone into depression.
