Since I changed my location, the tarred road is one of the few things I missed.
Back in my former location, whenever it rains, there is a proper drainage system and you won't see the road flooded or see potholes filled with water, cos all the roads are tarred, unlike my new area, where most streets are not tarred. Even the tarred main road is already filled with potholes, which causes discomfort during the rainy season.
At the estate where I am currently staying, either during the rainy or dry season, you will always see mud on your footwear whenever you go out because the street is not tarred. At first, I found this so unbearable, having to leave my footwear outside whenever I go out because of the mud. Still, as humans, we get used to things fast...The estate is fast developing and in a few more years they will get it tarred, but it still does not solve the ongoing issue outside the estate.
It can be deduced that I like a clean and tidy environment from my complaint above. The first time I experienced life in a tarred estate was when I visited my cousin in general gas estate in Ibadan, and I was impressed with how neat the estate was, the road was tarred and there was a proper drainage system and you can't even see any dirt on the road so there was no land or air pollution there.
Another criteria I look out for which makes an environment healthy to live in is security.
Nigeria is not a safe place to be; you can wake up one day to armed robbers knocking on your door to rob you, or find your items like your phone missing because some petty thieves cut your window net and stole it... There have been many cases of stolen items in some neighbourhoods, especially school areas and areas where there are many thugs.
There are places we should never think of staying, places like ghetto full of youth that drinks and smokes all the time, apart from the pollution that can damage some organs in our body, their lifestyle could also change us, there is a saying that a sheep that become friends with dog would feed on poop.
The environment we stay can influence us and our children greatly, hence why we must try to find a good place to stay, this does not mean we should threw caution to the wind and go to rent apartment in an area that is more than our income but we can try to get a better place that will have good impact on us and our children and most important where security is a bit tight.
The reason why I love my new location is how tight the security of the estate is, unknown people can't enter unless they call the person they come to visit, and even people who live in the estate are often checked, especially those who drive cars; their boot is always checked whenever they want to come in.
