The Gila C.jpg

As far as Abyssal goes for an Alpha the Gila is top of the line. I wanted to test out and see where this sweet ship could take me on my Abyssal adventures.

By now I was more than growing tired of tier 1’s in the Worm. Even more so of all the close calls I was having with the Knights. Even more so since it seems for whatever reason I was getting that spawn all the time now.

It was time to step up to the full potential of an alpha using the Gila. I ended up finding a passive shield fit that is the style I prefer. Things ended up going a lot better than I was expecting with it as well.

This thing was quite a tight fit. I almost needed to get an implant to make it work. I did end up picking up a couple of cheap implants just to give me a little more damage and shielding. All in all, I was about 400 million into it.

As far as Gila fits go that is quite cheap. The crazy people running tier 6 Abyssal on Omega accounts can be running multiple billion ISK Gilas or other ships. Along with spending billions on implants. If things go wrong or they lose power, it all goes poof.

Since I am going with a passive fit. That also kind of locks me into running gamma sites. As they give you a 50% boost to shields. While that works quite well for this build. A lot of people who run Abyssal use gamma, so they tend to be a bit pricy.

Like the ships before it. I started to take it through some lower-tier Abyssal to test the waters. It smoked tier 0 and 1 like they were nothing. By the time I made it to tier 2 Abyssal, this thing was still rocking.

running a tier 2.jpg

I also rather liked the loot I was getting. Sure, in a tier 0 or 1, a small ship would get a lot more loot than the Gila since a curser is not getting any kind of loot multiplier. It was also kind of nice only using one filament per Abyssal run as well.

I was rather tempted to just stick with tier 2 Abyssal. They were quite easy. I even had a couple of runs where I'd loot 10 million ISK of loot from a single room. Making these quite a decent profit since the filaments are not as bad as tier 3 is. Since most don’t run tier 2.

I ended up running a few tier 2s in the Gila. The best part was anytime I got a Knight spawn I'd crush them. The only thing I rather wished was this thing was a bit faster. With how tight the fit was and only being an alpha I'd have to go faction module if I wanted something better.

running a tier 3.jpg

After a while, I decided I'd risk it and see just how hard the tier 3 Abyssal runs were. The first thing I noticed was just how much bigger the spawns in each of the rooms were. Not fully knowing the capability of the Gila yet it was a little intimidating since you just can’t warp off in these things. You must clear them till the end or lose everything.

The filament to run these were also quite a lot more than I was used to spending. I was buying them between 4.1 to 4.6 million ISK each. At those kinds of prices, I was not going to be buying up 100 of them at a time.

running further abyssal.jpg

On a rather bad loot run, I might not even break break-even till the last room. While at this tier of Abyssal, all the extra loot that tends to be at the edge of the arena can start to add up. While they can still give next to nothing a couple, I'd loot occasionally would be bigger than what I was getting out of the Bioadaptive cache for a given room.

Most times however I'd learn these better. I was more concerned with remaining time than anything else. Not to mention I don’t move that fast and they are quite a decent distance away to get the extra loot.

At the very least any time I looted the filament I used to run one of these everything else I'd loot on that run was pure profit. It also seems that the type of Abyssal you are running has a better chance of dropping. As I'd be looting a lot more gamma most of the time than other types. That is however just a guess on my end.

After a few tier 3 Abyssal runs I was rather glad I decided not to just stick around in tier 2. I was also glad I upgraded to a Gila. Sometimes I'd end up neut out in heavy cap draining waves. This thing holds up quite nicely.

The Republic Fleet Valkyrie I was using as a drones were also sweet. I no longer had to worry about my drones getting killed from any defense towers. It was also quite rare I'd have to pull one back in if any decided to start targeting one of them. More times than not I could kill off anything and attack them before they would enter shields. So just doing so they would end up taking on more damage to get back to me.

some loot.jpg

The loot in these tiers 3 also has quite a lot of potential. Sometimes I'd get a tier 5 filament drop. While some of them are not worth much. I’d sometimes get one worth 18 million each. Putting a little smile on my face I went by to scoop it up.

Sometimes after running just two or three Abyssal, I'd end up docking up to drop off loot. I’d have a nice cool 50 million ISK in loot. While I did need to account for 9.2 to 13.8 million in filament costs and maybe another 1 million in missiles. That was still blowing the socks off anything I was getting at the lower tiers. I even recall it sometimes took me hours to get that much.

Those were not even good runs either. Anytime I had a run like that I was already happy. I had no idea just how good the loot could get. It turns out a whole lot better.

nice loot.jpg

One night I only had enough time to run a single Abyssal and call it for the evening. In the first room itself was 47 million in loot. I ended up getting a mutaplasmid worth around 45 million ISK. By the time I was done with that run, I had 54 million in loot.

The next day I ended up looting another mutaplasmid worth 91 million. Things were starting to add up and were more than making up for all the bad loot runs I had gotten up till this point.

Up till this point, I had also looted quite a few blueprints. All of them did not seem worth trying to sell. I even attempted one couple with no luck. Then I looted one I had never seen before, and it sold at a decent rate of 30 million. While nothing crazy it was nice to see there were still some blueprints worth trying to sell if I come across them.

All of that was nothing compared to what I'd be getting on one of my runs. I ended up going on a bit of a dry streak of bad loot. I was half tempted to call it a night. I however decided just one more run for the evening.

rather nice loot.jpg

I then got yet another mutaplasmid drop that made my eyes pop out slightly. For tier 3 Abyssal I was not expecting 175 million ISK drops. I was half expecting it to sell for a lot less once I got it to market. I was wrong on that front as well. I sold it for a cool 215 million. That single run alone would end up buying me a lot of filaments for future runs.

Final Thoughts

the end.jpg

I was not expecting the kind of loot I was getting out of this Abyssal tier 3 run. They have been rather thrilling so far. I have also learned sometimes it’s worth just waiting to get the filament I run during certain times of the week. As there is quite a price fluctuation from the demand for them.

I was also shocked by how well the Gila performs. I’d say I enjoy running it a lot more over my beloved Zealot. The Zealot also requires you to be an Omega so there is no real comparison since the Gila can be flown by an Alpha.
