This week, my younger son had swimming lessons twice—on Tuesday and Thursday (today). These were make-up lessons, as we couldn’t attend during late March to early April due to other plans.

Although he does have a bicycle, it’s still a bit too big for him, so we walk to the swimming school. At first, he would throw tantrums every time, saying, “I want to go by bus…” but I suppose he gave up after realizing that I wouldn’t take the bus unless the weather was really bad. Lately, he doesn’t say anything anymore😅

It’s been a year since he started swimming, and now he can swim about 10 meters using the crawl stroke. Currently, he’s practicing backstroke. He still doesn’t seem to have any friends in his class, but he’s interested in swimming itself and seems to find learning to swim fun. I’m grateful that he never resists going to lessons.

I was watching him practice from the gallery, but it was quite exhausting today because the gallery was so noisy. Kids were running around screaming, moms were chatting loudly… And the little boy who kept jumping onto the leaning bar I was using, stomping his feet on it—it was so irritating because of the vibrations. Yet the mother occupying the sofa seat right in front of me didn’t say a word. I wanted to move, but there weren’t any other free spots, so I had no choice but to stay on the same bar until the lesson ended.

After the lesson, we walked home again. The weather wasn’t great today—cloudy skies and a damp wind blowing. When we got home, my older son was already back from school, and he said he decided to join the brass band. Last week, he had said, “There are barely any boys in the brass band, so maybe I’ll go with the table tennis club,” but apparently he went to a trial session of the brass band today and had such a great time he forgot the time.

I had heard that brass band club activities continue until around fall of 9th grade, so the activity period is longer than that of sports clubs, which might make balancing it with high school entrance exams more difficult. I’m a little concerned about that, but ultimately, the most important thing is joining a club that he truly enjoys.

Today, I walked over 7,000 steps going to and from the swimming school. I’ve been feeling a bit out of shape lately, so I’d like to be more intentional about getting some exercise!
