Hello, my dear travelers, would you like to know the origin of the name of the Cuban capital? I invite you to travel through my city to see a beautiful sculpture that has been a symbol of beautiful Havana since 1837.
I'm talking about the Indian Fountain which represents our capital and is located in a central area at one end of the Paseo del Prado. It is a majestic sculptural complex approximately 3 meters high. It was created by the Italian sculptor Giuseppe Gaggini using white Carrara marble.
It consists of a large, beautifully decorated pedestal with a dolphin at each corner, with four dolphins in total. In the center is the figure of an Indian woman sitting on a rock. When it's working, it's a beautiful sight because water gushes from the dolphins' mouths and falls into the basin, but unfortunately, it's not working at this time.
Legend has it that in 1509, the wife of Chief Habaguanex, chief of the indigenous inhabitants, was sitting on a rock near the coast when she saw the Spanish sailors approaching, making a circumnavigation of Cuba. She spoke to them in her native language and pronounced the word "Havana," from which both the native and the city took their name.
The figure of the Indian woman bears the attributes of the natives to show that it was truly made in honor of the beautiful native, such as a crown of feathers and the arrows on her left shoulder. In her right hand, she holds the coat of arms, the symbol of the city. It is very striking that in her left hand, she holds the horn of plenty with tropical fruits; you can notice the pineapple protruding from its top; this other detail confirms that the sculpture was made for Havana.
The beautiful lady's face is looking straight ahead, as if she were guarding and protecting Havana's architectural treasures, such as the Capitol, the magnificent Gran Teatro del La Habana building, the emblematic Paseo del Prado, and other buildings that no one fails to visit when they come to this city.
We can also rest in the beautiful park on one side. This is the well-known Fraternity Park, which has leafy trees, and from there we can watch the comings and goings of people while resting on one of its benches.
Every visitor to Havana should begin their tour from this beautiful fountain, located just 100 meters from the National Capitol, a majestic architectural gem that marks the starting point for any route to any point in the country.
From here, you can explore the most iconic places steeped in history in Old Havana, which have earned it the status of World Heritage Site.

FUENTE LA INDIA: una mirada al origen de La Habana
Hola mis estimados viajeros ¿les gustaría conocer cuál es el origen del nombre de la capital cubana? Los invito a viajar por mi ciudad para conocer una hermosa escultura es símbolo de la bella Habana desde el año 1837.
Les hablo de la Fuente de la India la cual representa a nuestra capital, está situada en una céntrica zona en uno de los extremos del Paseo del Prado.
Es un majestuoso complejo escultórico de alrededor de 3 metros de altura, fue realizada por el escultor italiano Giuseppe Gaggini con mármol blanco de Carrara.
Consta de un gran pedestal bellamente decorado y en cada esquina tiene un delfín, con 4 delfines en total y en la parte central se encuentra la figura de una india sentada sobre una roca. Cuando está funcionando es un espectáculo hermoso porque de la boca de los delfines brota el agua y cae sobre la poceta, pero lamentablemente en estos momentos no está funcionando.
Cuenta la leyenda que en 1509 la esposa del cacique Habaguanex, jefe de los habitantes indígenas, estaba sentada sobre una roca cercana a la costa cuando vio llegar a los navegantes españoles que realizaban el bojeo a Cuba, les habló en su idioma nativo y pronunció la palabra Habana, a partir de ahí tanto la nativa como la ciudad tomó su nombre.
La figura de la india tiene los atributos propios de los nativos para mostrar que realmente fue realizada en honor de la bella nativa, como una corona de plumas y las flechas sobre su hombro izquierdo. En su mano derecha tiene el escudo, símbolo de la ciudad. Es muy llamativo que en su mano izquierda sostiene el cuerno de la abundancia con frutas tropicales, se puede notar la piña que sobresale en su parte superior, este otro detalle nos confirma que la escultura fue hecha para la Habana.
El rostro de la bella dama se encuentra mirando hacia al frente como si estuviera cuidando y custodiando los tesoros arquitectónicos de La Habana como el Capitolio, el magnífico edificio del Gran Teatro del La Habana, el emblemático Paseo del Prado y las demás edificaciones que nadie deja de visitar cuando viene a esta ciudad.
También podemos descansar en el hermoso parque que se encuentra a uno de sus lados. Es el conocido Parque de la Fraternidad que tiene frondosos árboles y desde ahí podemos observar el ir y venir de la gente mientras descansamos en uno de sus bancos.
Todo visitante de La Habana debe comenzar su recorrido desde esta bella fuente que se encuentra a solo 100 metros del Capitolio Nacional, majestuosa joya arquitectónica que marca el km 0 como punto inicial del recorrido hacia cualquier punto del país.
Desde aquí se puede explorar los lugares más emblemáticos llenos de historia que atesora la Habana Vieja, que le han valido para ganarse la distinción de patrimonio de la humanidad.
Además, podrá disfrutar de la diversidad de carros antiguos del siglo pasado que ruedan por nuestras calles. En cada foto que tomamos siempre capturamos alguno de ellos sin planificarlo. Es lo qiue caracteriza a nuestro país.
