If you are trying to get convince yours friends and family to join Splinterlands, just tell them that the co-founder has a card for his pickle. Enough said.
But seriously the Pickle Event is the coolest thing I have seen in Splinterlands for awhile.
FYI: The inspiration for this card came from the fact that yabapmatt has the only Runi that has a pickle as a weapon.
For all the information click the Pickle link under the Shop tab, on the Splinterlands homepage.
The event is divided into three Phases which are going to take place over the next few months. Every card has a 2% chance to be Gold Foil and a 0.025% chance to be Black Foil. You can double your odds of landing a Gold Foil or Black Foil by using an Alchemy Potion or Midnight Potion.
Phase 1
Phase 1 is encouraging and rewarding those who stake SPS. It is going to start on June 17th. On this day a snapshot of staked SPS will be taken. For every 1000 SPS that you have staked you will be allowed to buy one copy of the card for 150 DEC or Credits. Phase 1 will last 30 days.
Phase 2
Phase 2 will begin on July 29th and will be a random drawing for a Gold Foil Pickle. Each ticket for the raffle will cost 200 Aura, 10 vouchers, and 200 DEC and will be crafted on land. Each ticket entered will earn you a regular Foil pickle.
Phase 3
Phase 3 will begin on September 23rd and will be a daily Black Foil auction.
There will be 20 auctions each lasting 25 hours. To bid in the auction you will need Auction Points which will cost 1000 Aura, 50 Vouchers, and 500 DEC.
As a landowner and member of a Landowners guild (Conquests of Kibandia), more and more utility for land is always something that encourages me. Phase 2 will requires Aura and will be crafted by landowners. In addition, all phases will create demand for Midnight Potions as players will be able to double their chances of a Black Foil

The Stats:
Strategy:
Yaba’s Pickle is probably best suited for battles with no Magic. With its Armor plus Dodge and Sheld abilities it will take a while for an opponent to get through it. It will need a unit with Weapons Training placed next to it in order to attack. As Water unit, Kulu Mastermind would make the most obvious choice and has the benefit of having the Shield ability just like the Pickle. So they will synergize well in a no Magic attack battle. Even without Weapons Training, it is still a useful unit as a mini-tank, especially in the Little League ruleset.
Conclusion:
Many players will want to own this card just for the fun factor. If you play in Modern format it may very well be worth the price you pay for it. However, if you only play in Wild there may be cheaper alternatives. For example Baakjira is a no attack card that offers some of the same abilities for just 2 more mana. Despite competing only in Wild I do want to own this card, hopefully at Lvl 3 or 5. I just cannot resist Yaba’s Pickle.
