Unbuilding the gaze

How many possibilities can a setting offer before it is completely explored? The question came to me as I observed a broken glass door, still fixed to the structure of a house in deconstruction.

It could have been just a forgotten detail amidst the chaos of fractured concrete, but there was light there, and shadow. The house in deconstruction, just like my gaze. It was in that in-between space that I decided to create.

The light passed through the cracked glass as if trying to touch what is falling apart, the backlight drew silhouettes and left the model veiled, hidden, as if she belonged more to silence than to the image. There is something mysterious when what is revealed is exactly what cannot be clearly seen.

The house, undone in parts, gave me back a fragmented gaze, and maybe that is why this series speaks to me so deeply.

These photographs are my entry for today’s #monomad challenge.
